Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the J. William Fulbright fund and the US Department of State. It is a international exchange program that allows teachers and researchers to travel abroad. The US Student Program provides funds for recent graduates and young professionals to conduct research or teach English abroad. These grants generally last for nine months (one full academic year). Candidates are required to find a host institution in their respective countries and propose a research topic in order to receive the grant. For more information please visit the official US Fulbright website.

Proposed Research

My research is going to be on Tarangam choreography and presentation in Kuchipudi dance. I intend to spend seven months in Hyderabad learning dance from Dr. Uma Rama Rao and Smt. Revathi Komandrui. I will also spend two months in Delhi training under Padmabhushan Yamini Krishnamurthi. Additionally I will visit the Kuchipudi village, where the dance has been passed down for centuries.
